Mujeres del Tango – Tango Stories in a Woman’s Voice

Mujeres del Tango performs Argentine and Finnish tangos with their own vibrant and distinctive style. Their repertoire explores the many shades of tango, from traditional dance tangos to modern concert tango, including original compositions by the members of the trio. Alongside the traditional tango language of Spanish, the emotions and stories of tango are also expressed beautifully in Finnish.

The roots of Mujeres del Tango reach back more than twenty years to the trio Las Chicas del Tango, which was an active presence in the tango scene in the 2000s. Over the years the musicians have built diverse and distinguished careers in different musical fields, but eventually the longing for tango brought them back together. With a change in the accordion position – the brilliant Henna Leppänen joining the group – and with time bringing new perspectives, the ensemble decided to adopt a new name: Mujeres del Tango.

Las Chicas del Tango was one of the few ensembles to work with the legendary Tango Maestro Horacio Ferrer. He wrote three lyrics for the trio, which the members set to music for their second album. The group’s debut album La Voz Femenina (A Woman’s Voice) was released in 2007, followed by Tango de Norte a Sur (Tango from North to South) in 2012, focusing on their own compositions.

Today Mujeres del Tango continues the journey, bringing the powerful emotions, stories and expressive voice of tango to concert halls, clubs and festivals around the world.

Mujeres del Tango – Tangotarinoita naisen äänellä

Mujeres del Tango esittää argentiinalaisia ja suomalaisia tangoja omalla räväkällä ja persoonallisella tyylillään. Yhtyeen ohjelmisto kuljettaa kuulijan tangon monipuoliseen maailmaan: perinteisestä tanssittavasta tangosta moderniin konserttitangoon, mukana myös trion jäsenten omia sävellyksiä. Perinteisen tangokielen espanjan lisäksi tunnelmoidaan ja pakahdutaan myös suomeksi.

Yhtyeen juuret ulottuvat parinkymmenen vuoden taakse Las Chicas del Tango -trioon, joka toimi aktiivisesti tangomusiikin kentällä 2000-luvulla. Vuosien varrella yhtyeen jäsenet ovat meritoituneet monipuolisesti erilaisissa musiikkiprojekteissa, mutta lopulta kaipuu tangon pariin toi heidät jälleen yhteen. Kokoonpano uudistui haitaristin osalta, kun Johanna Juholan tilalle liittyi taiturimainen Henna Leppänen. Muuttuneen kokoonpanon ja ajan tuoman uuden näkökulman myötä yhtye otti nimekseen Mujeres del Tango.

Las Chicas del Tango oli yksi harvoista yhtyeistä, joka sai työskennellä legendaarisen Tango Maestro Horacio Ferrerin kanssa. Ferrer kirjoitti yhtyeelle kolme tekstiä, jotka trion jäsenet sävelsivät toiselle levylleen. Yhtyeen ensimmäinen albumi La Voz Femenina (Naisen ääni) julkaistiin vuonna 2007. Toinen, omaan tuotantoon keskittyvä levy Tango de Norte a Sur (Tango pohjoisesta etelään) ilmestyi vuonna 2012.

Nyt Mujeres del Tango jatkaa matkaa tuoden lavalle tangon vahvat tunteet, tarinat ja naisäänen voiman – konserteissa, klubeilla ja festivaaleilla ympäri maailmaa.

Mujeres del Tango – Historias de tango con voz de mujer

Mujeres del Tango interpreta tangos argentinos y finlandeses con un estilo propio, enérgico y lleno de personalidad. Su repertorio recorre la rica diversidad del tango: desde el tango tradicional para bailar hasta el tango de concierto contemporáneo, incluyendo también composiciones originales de las integrantes del trío. Además del español, idioma tradicional del tango, las emociones y las historias también se expresan con intensidad en finlandés.

Las raíces de Mujeres del Tango se remontan a más de veinte años atrás, cuando el trío Las Chicas del Tango tuvo una presencia activa en la escena del tango. A lo largo de los años, las integrantes han desarrollado destacadas trayectorias en distintos ámbitos musicales, pero finalmente el deseo de volver al tango las reunió nuevamente. Con un cambio en la formación —la talentosa acordeonista Henna Leppänen se unió al grupo— y con el paso del tiempo aportando nuevas perspectivas, el conjunto decidió adoptar un nuevo nombre: Mujeres del Tango.

Las Chicas del Tango fue uno de los pocos conjuntos que tuvo la oportunidad de trabajar con el legendario Maestro de Tango Horacio Ferrer. Él escribió tres letras para el grupo, que las integrantes musicalizaron para su segundo disco. El primer álbum del trío, La Voz Femenina, se publicó en 2007. El segundo, Tango de Norte a Sur, centrado en composiciones propias, apareció en 2012.

Hoy Mujeres del Tango continúa su camino llevando al escenario las emociones intensas, las historias y la fuerza expresiva del tango con voz de mujer, en conciertos, clubes y festivales alrededor del mundo.
